Abraham is the first Jew and known as the father of our nation ("our forefather Abraham", " Abraham our father", etc). How are these two ideas related? And how can we call someone from so far back in our history our father?

Don't tell G-d how big your problems are, tell your problems how big G-d is. With every challenge comes the strength to overcome it. With this perspective you'll come to be grateful for life's challenges. 

How could we expect someone to be happy when they are truly suffering? Empathy is the key.
